Éric Piolle was born on January 6, 1973 in Pau. He is married, father of 4 children. Graduate of Inpg, a former senior executive in a computer company. President of the group of ecologist representatives of the Rhône-Alpes region between 2010 and 2013. Éric Piolle is a graduate of the Grenoble Institut National Polytechnique in Industrial Engineering (National School of Industrial Engineering).
Member of Amnesty International since high school. He founded in 2005, in Grenoble, a support group for children from undocumented families backed by the network Education Without Borders.
He is co-founder of the "Roosevelt 2012" Collective, alongside Edgar Morin, Stéphane Hessel, Pierre Larouturou, Dominique Méda, Susan George, Gaël Giraud, etc. He advocates for humanistic values and a social and ecological transformation of the economy (financial reform, job creation through the reduction of working hours and fight against climate change).
In November 2009, he became a member of civil society in Europe Ecology Greens. He was elected regional ecologist from March 2010 to March 2014 and chaired until October 2013 one of the largest groups of elected ecologists in France.
He was elected Mayor of Grenoble in 2014 and re-elected in 2020.
