In 2003 he became Ombudsman of Greece until 2010 when he left his position to take part in mayoral elections and in 2014 he was re-elected. Another aspect of the program is the development of tourism and the promotion of Athens as a world tourist destination. This includes the update and restoration of the historical center of the city with a strong focus on reconstructing streets.
