Giorgos Kaminis

Mayor of Athens is Giorgos Kaminis. He was born in New York in 1954, where he lived until he was 5 years old. He graduated from the University of Athens in 1980 gaining a Law degree. His professional development began as a lecturer at the Athens University. From 1998 to 2003 he was Deputy Human Rights Ombudsman. In 2003 he became Ombudsman of Greece until 2010 when he left his position to take part in mayoral elections and in 2014 he was re-elected. His development program includes the Athens project for the economic recovery of the capital. The goal is to improve quality of life, tackle social crises and support business development. Another aspect of the program is the development of tourism and the promotion of Athens as a world tourist destination. This includes the update and restoration of the historical center of the city with a strong focus on reconstructing streets.
