Mayor of Lemnos is Dimitrios Marinakis. He was born on 23 March, 1971 in Myrina, Lemnos and was raised in the village of Aghios Dimitrios also in Lemnos. He is married with two children.
Marinakis studied Civil Engineering and worked as an independent civil engineer. In 2002, he was elected for the first time as member of the Municipal Council and was appointed as Vice-Mayor, President of the Sports Organization and representative at Local Union of Communities & Municipalities of Lesbos.
In 2010, Marinakis headed a party participating in the local elections and was elected as a member of the Municipal Council for second time. In 2014 his party won the local elections in the first round and he has been Mayor of Lemnos since September of 2014. He was re-elected as Mayor in the 2019 municipal elections.
He was also re-elected for the 3rd term as President of "Enosi", the Agricultural Cooperative of Lemnos, known also by the commercial name "Limnos Wines".
Having a strong love for sports, he was a very active football player as well as a coach of local football teams.
