Josef Azzopardi assumed office of Mayor of Marsa in July 2019.
He was born on 22 June 1981 and began his education at the School of Marsa, then attended Primary and Secondary School Guze Galea, Qormi. After secondary school, he graduated from Giovanni Curmi Secondary School, Naxxar. From there he received the necessary qualifications to be accepted at the University of Malta where he graduated with Bachelor’s degree in Education in History and Religion in 2004.
He got married in May 2008 and in June 2010, become father to Elizabeth and in February 2015 to his second child, Victoria.
From 2009 until 2011, Josef Azzopardi studied at the University of Malta for a Diploma in Politics and graduated on 1 December 2011. In November 2013, Josef Azzopardi graduated at the University of Malta, with a Higher Diploma in Politics.
On 2 May 2013, he was elected Deputy Executive Secretary of the Forum Laburisiti.
Appointed Deputy Mayor in 2012, in October 2013 Josef Azzopardi was elected president of the local committee of the Labour Party in Marsa and occupied this post until 2017. Following the Local Councils election in 2015, Josef Azzopardi scored 620 votes and was the second most favoured candidate. Thus, he was re-elected as Deputy Mayor.
Josef Azzopardi was encouraged by the Labour Party and from many locals to contest again the local elections to be held on 25 May 2019 and was elected mayor.
From 2018 until today he holds the post of member of the Southern Advisory Council of Malta. He also works as Assistant Head of Media school at St Ignatius College.
