Jakub Banaszek has been the mayor of Chełm since 2018.
He was born in 1991 in Chelm. He was raised and received his elementary and secondary education in the city. Then he graduated from the Warsaw University in law.
He also holds a bachelor’s degree in public health from the Warsaw University and a diploma in medical law at Warsaw University and pharmacy management at Warsaw University of Technology Business School. Banaszek also boasts a certificate issued by School of Political Leaders.
Jakub Banaszek started his career as an assistant to former Polish Minister of Justice- Jarosław Gowin. Then he became an advisor of the Minister of Health at the time - Konstanty Radziwił.
His further roles include being a special advisor to Prime Minister of Republic of Poland- Mateusz Morawiecki and Chief Political Advisor to Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology of Republic of Poland - Jadwiga Emilewicz. Between 2014 and 2018 he was councilor of Ochota district in Warsaw.
In 2018 as a candidate of the leading political party in Poland- Law and Justice - he took part in the elections for the position of Mayor of Chełm which he won becoming one of the youngest mayors of cities in the whole country.
