Francisco Guarido Viñuela was born and lives in Zamora. He graduated in Teaching, Political Science and History with Bachelor’s degrees.
He has been Mayor of Zamora since 2015 and City Councilor since 1999. Within Izquierda Unida (IU) he held various positions, serving as Provincial Coordinator from 1993 to 1999.
In 2015 IU won 8 councillor seats in the municipal elections of the City of Zamora with 29.1% of the vote, becoming the second force behind the Partido Popular (PP) with its 10 councillors. This was the best result achieved by IU in the provincial capitals. Guarido was elected mayor by obtaining the vote of three councillors from the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) and two councillors who had left PSOE a few days before. His election meant the end of 20 years of PP government in Zamora.
