Croatia launches “Small Projects for a Better Tomorrow” competition

The deadline for applications is 26 May

The Croatian Foundation for Partnership and Civil Society Development has unveiled the launch of “Small Projects for a Better Tomorrow”: an open competition for the financing of projects in local communities.

The aim of this initiative is to incentivise citizens to get involved in activities which will benefit them, their communities, and their cities. Moreover, it seeks to strengthen communities by bringing people together to present their ideas and work on important projects.

Who can apply to receive funding?

The competition is open to all residents of cities which are members of the Fund of Cities and Municipalities: Buje, Buzet, Funtana, Labin, Lanišće, Ližnjan, Marčana, Medulin, Novigrad, Pazin, Porec, Rovinj, Svetvincenat, Vodnjan and Vrsar.

Residents of these cities must form groups and work together – alongside associations, institutions, and local committees – to create projects which will benefit their communities. In a press release, the Foundation reports that each project must contribute to solving a specific issue faced by the local community.

Taking this further, projects must address one of the following two themes: Local community development or Preservation, valorisation, and promotion of Istrian identity, tradition, culture, and customs.

Financing

In its press release, the foundation further reported that the funds for this competition amount to HRK 250,000 (EUR 33,043). In other words, applicants can obtain financing from a minimum of HRK 5,000 (EUR 661) to a maximum of HRK 25,000 (EUR 3,305) for their projects.

What is more, it is important to note that the maximum number of grants which the Foundation can allocate to groups from the same local government unit is three. In total, the Foundation will award between 10-41 groups of applicants.

The deadline for applying to the “Small Projects for a Better Tomorrow” competition is 26 May. Applications can be filled out on the website of the Foundation for Partnership and Civil Society Development.
