In a press conference on 9 March, the Greek Minister of Tourism Harry Theoharis told the International Tourism Fair ITB Berlin that the country will begin this year’s tourist season on 14 May. In addition to this, he unveiled the slogan that will be used for the country’s promotional campaign: “All you want is Greece”.

Health and safety protocols

Mr Theoharis revealed that Greece will officially welcome tourists from 14 May. However, he also stressed that the rules and regulations put in place to prevent the spread of COVID must still be followed. Furthermore, he clarified that the country’s opening date is provisional and prone to change depending on the virus.

Travellers will only be allowed to enter the country if they had been vaccinated, have antibodies after recovery or had recently tested negative for COVID. Taking this further, Mr Theoharis also explained that tourists can be subjected to random rapid tests.

The Ministry of Tourism reported that if it is necessary, travellers will be able to receive care and treatment during their stay in Greece. “The cost of hospitalization or any other required action, aimed at protecting the health of tourists, professionals and citizens, will be borne by the Greek State,” highlighted Theoharis.

Many people around the world regard Greece as their favourite summer destination. That is why, they have anxiously anticipated the announcement of the tourist season opening. Knowing this, Mr Theoharis shared that this year’s tourist slogan is “All you want is Greece”.

Concluding his speech, the Minister said, “I think I can already hear you whispering our new slogan: “All I want is Greece”. All you want is Greece. To find the smile again, to take back your life, all you want is Greece.”
