Selective waste collection in all schools in Brașov

Selective waste collection in all schools in Brașov

Brașov is the first city in the country, after Sector 6 in Bucharest, to join this project

Yesterday, 5 April 2021, the City of Brașov signed a partnership agreement on the implementation of a programme for selective waste collection and recycling in all schools in the municipality. Thus, Brașov becomes the first city to join the initiative of ASAP (Army Plastic Safe Rescue), after, back in February, ASAP Romania started a pilot program for selective waste collection in the schools in Sector 6 of Bucharest.

"Recycling has been one of the topics of the day for many years. We want the students and children from Brasov to become ambassadors of this new wave of responsibility towards the planet, nature and selective collection, in everything that it means at present,” said Allen Coliban, the mayor of Brasov.

52 educational centres involved in 2021-2022

The programmes will start in the 52 educational units in the Municipality of Brașov at the beginning of the school year 2021-2022. It plans to focus on three main activities, including:

  • Supporting schools in purchasing separate recyclable waste collection infrastructure, such as special baskets for each type of recyclable waste, placed in all classrooms and hallways, as well as containers for each school. Waste that can be recycled is supported by the appropriate calibration of the volume, distribution, and location of sorting containers, both within and outside of schools.
  • Conducting a student education campaign that focuses on illustrating the correct way to collect waste in fractions, including plastic, paper, metal, and glass, as well as the route of waste after collection, sorting/recycling stations, increasing the standard of collection and the degree of recycling and thus contributing to the reduction of packaging pollution.
  • Data collection and correlation from the sanitation contractor for the collection of both recyclable and household waste, in order to track collection efficiency on the fractions.
