Stuttgart launches vaccination in nightclubs campaign

With the new vaccination parties, the city hopes to protect young club-goers from a new wave of COVID-19

Today, Stuttgart announced the start of a vaccination campaign in the city’s nightclubs. The campaign is called #welcomeimclub and a mobile medical team will offer on-site anti-Covid shots without prior appointments to the beat of dance music.

The club vaccination campaign is a joint initiative between the Club Kollektiv Stuttgart and the Nightlife Coordination Office, as well as the mobile medical team from Robert Bosch Hospital and the Stuttgart City Health Department. The city has announced six dates for the campaign, with the first vaccine party scheduled for today in the Kowalski nightclub.

Get the shot first, then dance

Since the start of September, Baden‐Württemberg has permitted dancing in clubs without a mask. This is why Stuttgart is focusing on vaccinating as many club-goers as possible, to prevent a new vector for the disease.

According to a press release by the city, Prof. Mark Dominik Alscher, Medical Director of the Robert Bosch Hospital has been relying on a decentralized strategy for the clinic's mobile vaccination team to raise vaccination rates: "We have had good experiences with immersing ourselves in the lives of citizens".

He continued by explaining that the joint initiative with the Club Kollektiv Stuttgart is a great opportunity for the health campaign to reach an otherwise elusive demographic – the vibrant youth. Nevertheless, he is hopeful that convenience will be a significant factor in the final push of the vaccination campaign.

Dr Alexandra Sußmann, Mayor for Social Affairs and Integration explained that vaccination is the only way out of the pandemic and that everyone can and should be able to get the shot. She elaborated on the city’s strategy, saying that the vaccination teams are where the people are, where they can perceive them as part of everyday life. Local authorities deliberately chose to stay away from hospitals - during the day, people can get the jab at marketplaces and at night in clubs.

She rounded off her statement by explaining that this is the only way to convince the undecided.
