SMC, el servicio meteorológico de Cataluña, volverá a proporcionar previsiones meteorológicas para la Volta a Catalunya (la competición anual del Tour Ciclista de la región) en una colaboración beneficiosa. El giro de este año es que ambos cumplen 100 años. Sin embargo, los dos centenarios lucen brillantes ya que se adaptan a las realidades del siglo XXI.
La Volta tendrá lugar entre el 22 y el 28 de marzo y sus participantes contarán con información meteorológica completa y detallada que será proporcionada por el SMC. Técnicamente hablando, esta será su edición número 100, aunque la primera carrera de este tipo se celebró en 1911, por lo que supera los cien años.
El Tour Catalán de Ciclismo, aunque no tan conocido como el Tour de Francia, es una carrera de prestigio entre los deportistas implicados en esta disciplina. Es casi comparable con la competencia francesa, que comenzó en 1903.
Este año, presentando una edición aniversario, los organizadores han preparado un recorrido variado compuesto por siete etapas que incluirán diferentes condiciones topográficas y climáticas para los concursantes. La carrera arrancará en Calella, una contrarreloj en el Pla de l’Estany, dos finales de alto nivel en Vallter 2000 y Port Ainé, así como etapas que favorecen las finales de sprint que son las favoritas del público.
El Volta se ha asociado con SMC desde 2018. Esta colaboración es esencial, ya que este último también ha estado ofreciendo datos más variados para permitir que los ciclistas y organizadores tomen las mejores decisiones para el curso que se avecina.
Además de la temperatura del aire, esto también incluye información, como el estado del cielo, la visibilidad y la probabilidad de precipitación en las localidades exactas atravesadas por el hipódromo. El logotipo de SMC también aparecerá de forma destacada en la línea final de cada etapa, así como en el sitio web de Volta y en el libro de ruta de la carrera.
