A large-scale urban redevelopment project seeks to inject some life into the district by creating, among other things, housing units
The yearly event was carried out for the 26th consecutive time and as always has proven to be a great success
The Bled Underwater Society assembled for the 26th edition of the cleaning of lake Bled. In cooperation with Bled municipality, the Slovenian Diving Association and the Bled Fisheries association, over 150 local divers took part in the event. 26 different spots of the lake were targeted, and participants happily jumped into the cold water. They collected not only garbage – like bricks, iron, plastics and cans, but also intrusive aquatic life forms that were not meant to thrive in the lake. The divers’ descent took them 6 meters underwater so they could clean up the lake’s bed.
The event was the biggest and most popular they’ve had until now and was followed by the traditional picnic on the shores of Bled. The initiative is also very important to the local administration as it promotes a cleaner and healthier lifestyle. Every year that the initiative is successfully carried out, lake Bled becomes cleaner, safer and more enjoyable for locals. Such activities also promote the importance of responsibly disposing your trash and the message is apparently having a lasting impact. According to one of the oranisers, each time locals dive to clean up the lake, the garbage discovered is less than it was in the previous year.
