The event invites citizens to improve public life through the use of 5G networks

On 14 February, the Czech City of Pilsen announced that it is co-organising 5Gthon: an event that seeks to change the future of Czech cities through the use of 5G networks. According to a press release, the event is open to everyone and will take place over several days this month in Prague.

Ideathon: Creating smart cities

The first part of the event (Ideathon) will take place this coming weekend, from 18 to 20 February. During these days, individuals and teams will be tasked with designing and developing a project that will improve public life through 5G.

In other words, Ideathon will be an intensive weekend marathon during which participants will compete with one another to come up with the best idea for a smart city project. The team (or individual) with the best idea will receive CZK 30,000 (over EUR 1,200) to realise their projects. They can then use this money for development, media support, free 5G tariff, and mentoring, among others.

Sharing good practices

The event’s organisers will hold the second part of 5Gthon on 22 February. On this date, leading experts from the world of innovation will give lectures and share their experiences. More specifically, they will reveal examples of good practices concerning 5G and smart solutions.

“Pilsen has long been trying to use the latest technology to make people’s lives in the West Bohemian metropolis better. This is evidenced by the fact that we have so far been able to put into practice over 40 smart solutions from various fields. I am very happy that a similar event is taking place; we face several challenges, and sharing good experiences brings a great opportunity to capture and use them effectively,” commented Vlastimil Gola, Councillor for Smart Cities and Business Support in Pilsen.
