Apply now and join the Creative Cities Network of UNESCO

The call for applications is open to cities that have invested in culture as means to promote sustainable development. See more about the application procedure and apply by the end of June

Cities worldwide can now apply to join the Creative Cities Network of the United Nations Education and Science Organization (UNESCO). The network was created in 2004 with the objective to foster international cooperation between those cities that have invested considerably in culture as way to promote sustainable development. It covers the following topics: Crafts and Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts, and Music. Nowadays 180 cities in 72 countries from around the world are joining forces to develop common strategies in pursuit of more inclusive, resilient and safer lifestyle. Accordingly, through this initiative cities contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 agenda.

Becoming a creative city means that local authorities are committed to promoting inclusive approaches that involve all stakeholders and vulnerable groups in favour of sustainable development. The former are expected to be sharing good practices, to develop partnerships enhancing creativity and the cultural industries, strengthen participation in cultural life and integrate it in local plans for urban development. The call for 2019 edition is open to UN Members States and Associate Members by the end of June. Applications will be assessed based on action plan and expected contribution to the objective of the Network, together with the commitment of the city to the SDGs.

Find more about the call and the application procedure at the Official page of UNESCO.
