El objetivo es aumentar aún más la seguridad vial en las calles de la ciudad
Los vehículos municipales que circulan y trabajan por las calles de Barcelona ya cuentan con un cartel especial que advierte a los ciclistas y vehículos que circulan detrás de ellos que tengan cuidado con los ángulos muertos. El objetivo general es reducir los riesgos de tráfico y disminuir las lesiones y muertes derivadas de accidentes fácilmente evitables.
Se señalizarán un total de 2.199 vehículos, lo que ayudará al resto de conductores a evitar riesgos y estar en un lugar visible. La señal se colocará en los vehículos del parque de limpieza, parques y jardines, mantenimiento del espacio urbano, Guardia Municipal o el Servicio de Prevención de Incendios y Salvamento (SPEIS), entre otros.
La iniciativa forma parte de una serie de acciones que se están realizando en la Unión Europea para reducir el riesgo de accidentes mejorando la visibilidad de las personas que conducen furgonetas, autobuses y camiones de reparto. A la larga, habrá que incorporar sistemas avanzados de asistencia a la conducción en todos los vehículos.
La prioridad del Plan de Movilidad Urbana de Barcelona 2024 es reducir la siniestralidad en la ciudad. También tiene como objetivo promover una movilidad sostenible, saludable y segura, por lo que el Ayuntamiento está trabajando con las autoridades de tráfico y otros consejos estatales para definir e implementar esta nueva señalización de puntos ciegos.
La colocación de la señal es voluntaria y afecta a los vehículos de transporte de viajeros de más de nueve plazas, incluido el conductor (vehículos de las categorías M2 y M3, según el Reglamento General de Circulación), vehículos de transporte de mercancías de las categorías N1, N2 y N3 y urbanos vehículos de desecho.
El año pasado se registraron 7.000 accidentes de tráfico, un aumento del 23,4% respecto a 2020 pero un descenso de más del 24% respecto a 2019. El colectivo con mayor tasa de mortalidad fueron los motociclistas, que también sufrieron los traumatismos más graves (84), seguidos de peatones (41), ciclistas (6), conductores de vehículos de movilidad personal (6) y ciclomotores (4). En total, los grupos vulnerables representaron el 85% de los heridos graves.
La principal causa directa de accidentes sigue siendo la falta de concentración de conductores y motoristas, y el no respeto de las distancias de seguridad.
