Barcelona prepares to host the Congress of Feminist Economics

The event will focus on the gender aspects of the digital economy, among other things

For the first time in its history, the City of Barcelona will play host to the Congress of Feminist Economics to take place on 16-18 March 2023 at Nau Bostik. The event itself happens once every two years and has been exclusively held in Spanish cities in all of its previous seven editions, although it attracts speakers from all over the world.

In this edition, the congress will focus on the digital dimension of the feminist economy, paying special attention to the readings that are made from the feminist theory of technology, the digital economy and the digitization of life. 

Organized by the Barcelona City Council and the Dimmons research group of the Open University of Catalonia (UOC), it will aim to strengthen the link between the academic world and the socio-economic framework of the city.

A different look at the digital labour market

Feminist economics has always sought to be, beyond a current of economic thought, a transformative framework. For this reason, the congress will host a diversity of formats and proposals to promote academic exchange and the confluence of social and economic agents. It will also be a space for digital experimentation with a datathon focused on gender violence.

In that sense, seven thematic axes will be discussed: digital technologies and economies, macro (crises, ecofeminisms, global health and work), micro (organizational alternatives and transitions), violence, care, public policies, and feminist epistemologies and methodologies.

The Congress will be attended by prominent names in the field of feminist economics such as the activist Flora Partenio; researcher and designer Sasha Costanza-Chock; the anthropologist Yayo Herrero; cyberfeminist Alex Hache; or one of the voices of international reference in feminist data activism, Catherine d'Ignazio.
