The Deutsches Theater Berlin is currently constructing them
The Deutsches Theater Berlin is currently constructing new outdoor venues. Five performances, including three premieres, will be shown on two open-air stages.
If the Covid-19 situation permits, the Deutsches Theater company would like to perform outside in the months of May, June, July, and August. Last summer, they responded quickly to the situation by offering summer theatre in the forecourt.
Ulrich Khuon, the director of the Deutsches Theater Berlin shared about the open-air project: "In recent months we have developed a new artistic force with our digital theatre offering, but at the same time we are constantly looking for solutions like we do with analogue theatre. We are currently planning the way outdoors.
We reacted quickly to the situation last June and August and offered summer theatre on the forecourt. This has proven itself when studies have also shown that theatre rooms are the safest public spaces Places, then playing in the open air, where the audience sits with a mask and at a distance, are classified as even safer to show analogue culture again and we would like to stick to this project."
Due to the pandemic, Berlin's theatres have been closed for about six months, and the proposed federal regulations are no closer to being implemented.
The Bundestag activated an emergency brake on 21 April 2021, which also governs the opening of cultural institutions. The number of infections per 100,000 people registered in a district or city within seven days is the deciding factor.
The German Cultural Council, which is an organisation headquartered in Berlin, welcomed uniform rules but also expressed concern: there was no difference between cultural events held in a closed space and those held in the open air. This may mean that open-air festivals would be unable to take place during the summer.
If studies indicate that theatres are among the safest public locations, then performing outdoors, where the audience sits with a mask and at a distance, should be considered an even better option.
