The Local Plan aims to transform Bristol into a sustainable and inclusive city in the next 20 years
Bristol City Council is hard at work creating a vision for the city for the upcoming 20 years – how it will look, develop and meet the needs of the future. With that goal in mind, the local administration is currently in the process of drafting a Bristol Local Plan that aims to plan for the city’s development of the next couple of decades. Currently the draft outlines the City Council’s approach to creating a sustainable city that promotes inclusive growth and development. Specific initiatives include the construction of 33,500 homes by 2036 aimed to tackle homelessness, the protection of green spaces in the city – 159 of which are meant to become the specially protected so called Local Green Spaces and the protection for local food growing sites within the city. Alongside these measures, plans include the introduction of green public transport, the creation of digital infrastructure and construction of modern work spaces.
The Bristol Local Plan is currently in a stage of review by citizens and the City Council is encouraging everyone to contribute to it with their own ideas, suggestions and visions of how the city should look like in 20 years’ time.
