Ya existe un espacio digital inmersivo catalán, o más bien un metaverso, ya que Facebook hizo cada vez más popular ese término a finales del año pasado. Denominada CatVers, se trata de una plataforma virtual de libre acceso, que se puso en marcha a principios de esta semana con el apoyo de la Diputación y la Cámara de Comercio de Barcelona.
Con este movimiento, las autoridades quieren presentarse como pioneras en un campo que comúnmente se percibía como reservado para los visionarios del sector privado. Sin embargo, en opinión de los desarrolladores, Catalan Blockchain Center (CBCat), es pertinente que los gobiernos lideren el desarrollo de esta nueva frontera, ya que su tarea es garantizar que allí se respeten y protejan los derechos humanos.
CatVers es monolingüe y solo está disponible en catalán y los organizadores no ocultan que su misión es preservar la lengua, la identidad y la cultura catalanas también en el mundo virtual, tal y como ocurre en el real.
Sin embargo, hay algunas advertencias para el usuario. El acceso al metaverso está disponible para organizaciones y empresas que comparten los objetivos y la misión de CatVers. Necesitan aplicar y registrarse a través de un formulario en línea.
Una vez otorgado el acceso, pueden crear salas y proporcionar códigos de acceso a sus empleados o miembros para que puedan tener reuniones virtuales. Se puede acceder al metaverso a través de cualquier dispositivo de pantalla electrónica conectado a Internet, pero se disfruta mejor a través de gafas de realidad virtual.
El acceso gratuito solo estará disponible durante dos meses, más tarde se introducirá una tarifa “asequible”. También se habla de introducir una moneda virtual dentro del metaverso.
El proyecto tiene un presupuesto inicial de entre 10.000 y 20.000 euros, y los organizadores esperan que sea "económicamente sostenible" rápidamente, afirmando que es un sector transformador que cambiará Internet tal y como lo conocemos.
Hay planes para crear un campus virtual dentro de CatVers a finales de este año, para ser utilizado por las universidades catalanas, así como exposiciones y festivales de arte en los próximos meses. Los organizadores también esperan establecer un "gobierno descentralizado" del metaverso, para que pueda ser administrado por los grupos que se inscriban.
