El miércoles 26 de enero, el Parlamento autonómico de Cataluña aprobó una resolución condenando las “cacerías de brujas” que se han sucedido en la historia y absolviendo a todas las mujeres que habían sido perseguidas y perdieron la vida como consecuencia.
Análisis recientes de historiadores han demostrado que 700 mujeres habían sido ejecutadas acusadas de practicar brujería y que Cataluña era una de las regiones más brutales de Europa en ese sentido. Los grupos que cabildearon por la aprobación de la resolución explicaron que en el período comprendido entre los siglos XV y XVIII, la Inquisición fue particularmente dura en su persecución de las mujeres.
A menudo se culpaba a las brujas de la muerte repentina de los niños o de las malas cosechas, según Pau Castell, profesor de historia moderna en la Universidad de Barcelona. Grupos independentistas y de izquierda dicen que las mujeres fueron "víctimas de una persecución misógina" y quieren que se honre su memoria poniendo su nombre en las calles.
"Antes nos llamaban brujas, ahora nos llaman 'feminazis' o histéricas o sexualmente frustradas. Antes hacían cacerías de brujas, ahora las llamamos feminicidas", ha dicho la diputada regional Jenn Díaz, del gobernante ERC, según la agencia de noticias AFP.

El Pleno aprobó la propuesta de resolución sobre los acusados de brujería por 114 votos a favor (PSC-Unidades, ERC, JxCat, CUP y ECP), 14 en contra (Vox y PPC) y 6 abstenciones (Cs). Los partidos independentistas catalanes también estaban a favor de la moción, y los grupos políticos de derecha y federalistas se oponían.
Cataluña no es la primera región o país de Europa en aprobar este tipo de resoluciones. El texto oficial dice que su objetivo es “impulsar políticas públicas dirigidas a promover la memoria de tantas mujeres que han sido injustamente ejecutadas por condenas infundadas y promover la justicia histórica en línea con iniciativas que han surgido en otros lugares, como Escocia, Suiza, Noruega o Navarra".
