Chopin concerts at Lazienki park Warsaw go online

In 2020, due to the coronavirus, the famous concerts will not be taking place at the composer’s monument in Łazienki Królewskie park

Great news for everyone passionate about classical music and Fryderyk Chopin in particular. The traditional open-air concerts at Lazienki Krolewskie park in Warsaw are returning this Sunday. What is more, they will be available online.

How to listen to Chopin’s music online

Due to the restrictions associated with the coronavirus epidemic, the famous open-air Chopin concerts will not take place at the composer's monument, informed the municipal authorities. Instead, starting from May 17, several of the greatest Polish pianists will perform on the Internet.

Their recitals will be recorded in the Old Orangery in the capital city’s park. This way, the atmosphere created by the carefully crafted concert programs will be complemented by the beauty of Stanisławów interiors and their unique acoustics.

This year’s edition of the concerts will be inaugurated by Karol Radziwonowicz, who has been performing in the world's most famous music halls for many years. He is the only pianist in the world whose recordings of Fryderyk Chopin's compositions were played during the space mission "Endeavor" in February 2010 - on the 200th anniversary of the birth of the great composer of Polish descent.

The first Chopin concert will be available on the Internet on Sunday, May 17 at 12.00. The broadcast can be accessed on Facebook, YouTube and the websites of the Chopin concerts and Stołeczna Estrada.

After this week, well-known Warsaw pianists will play concerts every Sunday until July. The list includes Aleksandra Świgut, Bronisława Kawalla, Piotr Pawlak, Maria Gabryś-Heyke, Joanna Ławrynowicz and Jacek Kortus.

Outdoor recitals of Chopin's music were organized for the first time in 1959, after the reconstruction of the monument to the composer. Over time, they have changed their concept on numerous occasions.

However, this year, for the first time in history, due to the coronavirus pandemic, pianists will not play at the Chopin monument but will perform for online users. Unfortunately for Warsovians, but luckily for all of us around the world staying indoors, the concerts will come directly to our homes.

The concert cycle is financed by the capital city of Warsaw. Here is the concert calendar:

MAY, every Sunday at 12.00

  • 17 May inaugural concert - Karol Radziwonowicz
  • May 24 - Aleksandra Świgut
  • May 31 - Bronisław Kawalla

JUNE, every Sunday, at 12.00

  • June 7 - Piotr Pawlak
  • June 14 - Joanna Ławrynowicz
  • June 21 - Jacek Kortus
  • June 28 - Julia Kociuban

JULY, Sunday 5 July at 12.00 - Maria Gabryś-Heyke

The classical open-air recitals with the eternal music of the Polish composer turned 60 last year.  As we wrote earlier, they have become an integral part of the cultural heritage of the Polish capital and are an exquisite attraction for everyone passionate about classical music.
