City libraries in Linz now offer call and collect services to locals

The vast archives of the city’s libraries are now available after several legal issues were cleared up by the local government

The Linz City Library has been offering its customers a pick-up service for pre-ordered media at six locations since Tuesday, January 26th. The pick-up can be arranged by phone or email, providing the customer number and name. The library team is also more than happy to help with the selection over the phone.

Bringing media to people’s doorstep

Upon announcing the new offer by the city’s libraries, Linz Mayor Klaus Luger stated that “Starting tomorrow, the Linz City Library will be offering the new collection service, Call and Collect and, which the libraries were previously unable to do for legal reasons. With a new legal basis, the same system is now possible as in retail: pre-order and pick up in person. It is important to me that a new cultural offer is created in times of lockdown.”

“The new service will be offered in all city library branches. Owners of a library card can now pick up their desired media personally in lockdown, taking all precautionary measures. The pre-order is also free of charge,” explained Doris Lang-Mayerhofer, the city councillor responsible for city libraries.

The available books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs, magazines, tonies and games can be researched in the online catalogue at stadtbibliothek.linz.at. Pre-orders can only be picked up at the branch in which the item is located. Deliveries of pieces of media to another branch is currently not possible, however.

The entirety of the service is free but pick-up is limited to 30 titles per library card. The general loan conditions and fees apply to the loan.
