Copenhagen’s amusement park pitch

The Danish capital is the home of the world’s oldest amusement parks

Copenhagen is the perfect destination if you’re on the lookout for family fun. Parents with children will find a vast array of options on offer in the Danish capital that will keep them entertained for days on end. Under the spotlight – the world’s oldest amusement parks.

Attractions dating back centuries

First on the list of great entertainment venues are the world-famous Tivoli Gardens. The park first opened its doors over 175 years ago – in 1843 and is the second-oldest amusement park in the world and the 5th most-visited park in Europe.

In the amusement park, one can find more than 30 rides of all kinds – for the littlest of visitors to those meant for adults and grown-ups. The historical charm of the venue is not only pleasing to the eyes but also helps visitors immerse themselves in times long gone by, while simultaneously enjoying the wide selection of entertainment opportunities.

Up next is the even older Bakken amusement park – otherwise known as Dyrehavsbakken. It opened its doors nearly 500 years ago in 1583, making it the oldest amusement park in the world. Located just 10 km north of central Copenhagen, it’s the perfect place for a visit that will enchant and entertain families for hours.

If you and your kids are more interested in animals, other remarkable venues that are certainly worth the family trip are the Copenhagen Zoo with its 4,000 inhabitants and the National Aquarium Denmark.

Not to miss is, of course, the everyday life in the city. Copenhagen is ancient and boasts a rich history and traditions that date back thousands of years. Visitors can marvel at many of the local landmarks and observe some of the traditions that have remained part of the city – like, for example, the changing of the royal guard at the Queen’s Palace.
