Cork Bike Week is currently underway

Dozens of events for bike lovers of all ages will entertain you in both city and county

The start of the Cork Bike Week was given yesterday, 22nd of June. The traditional event returns for its jubilee 10th edition with dozens of activities and a little something for each family member. As part of it, one can participate in family fun cycles, social cycles, lunchtime cycles and history cycles; take part in road safety awareness activities, visit an anti-theft stall, watch bike films and many more. The week-long event dedicated to cycling is a product of the successful cooperation between Cork City and Cork County councils, together with Cork Sports Partnership and Cork Transport & Mobility Forum and will run on the territory of both the city and the county until next Sunday, 30th June. It is part of the National Bike Week initiative that was launched ten years ago.

One of the objectives of the sports event is to emphasize the multiple benefits of cycling to mobility, mood and last but not least – to the environment. Furthermore, through Be Safe, Be Seen Tune Trail the participants are encouraged to wear as colourful clothes as possible and put lights on their bikes so as to underline the importance of appropriate gear for bikers’ safety. Also, at the Anti-Theft stall everyone will have the opportunity to protect their bikes from theft by registering their details and obtaining a unique sticker.

A free concert at Fitzgerald’s Park and tons of giveaways are, of course, part of the event programme.
