NORAD's tradition of tracking Santa is now entering its 62nd year
During the festive season millions of children count down the days of December and go to sleep on Christmas Eve, excitedly awaiting the delivery of their gifts from the beloved Santa Claus. Before the arrival of December 25, children (and adults) can follow Father Christmas' journey across the globe using the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and Google's Santa trackers from 8am GMT on Christmas Eve.
Christmas Eve is a busy time for Father Christmas as he needs to visit 390 000 homes per minute - or 6424 per second. It's estimated that Santa will travel about 510 million kilometers during Christmas Eve as he delivers presents to children across the globe. Santa's Yuletide journey begins at 2 a.m. ET, on December 24 (but tracking isn't available until 6 a.m.). He flies down from the North Pole beginning at the International Date Line, then travels west through Asia, down through Africa then back up through Europe before flying across the Atlantic to visit North and South America.
