Dreaming of a job doing absolutely nothing and still getting paid? One lucky person in Sweden is about to get exactly this position

Dreaming of a job doing absolutely nothing and still getting paid? One lucky person in Sweden is about to get exactly this position

An art project funded by Public Art Agency Sweden is offering an "eternal employment" position at a future train station in Gothenburg

Eternal Employment, by artist duo Simon Goldin and Jakob Senneby, won the competition to supply a public artwork for Gothenburg's new Korsvagen train station. The position's lucky holder will be paid 21 600 kronor (2226 Euros) a month with annual wage increases that match those for Swedish government workers.

Each morning, the chosen employee needs to check-in and turn on a fluorescent “working light” whenever the employee begins their shift. After that, the employee is not required, however, to stay within the premises of the station throughout the day. Later on the employee needs to go back to the station to check-out. The job is advertised as a full-time contract with an indefinite duration period and the worker will be entitled to the same benefits as any other public sector employee, including paid holiday leave and pension provisions.

Since the project received international attention with articles in the Washington Post, The Telegraph, EURONEWS and other popular media channels, the organisers had received nearly 100 applications from all over world. Despite the big interest, the application process will not formally open until 2025 at the earliest.
