Expansion of Scandinavia’s busiest airport

Expansion of Scandinavia’s busiest airport

Air travel has increased significantly in the recent decades and it continues to grow

In 2014, Expanding CPH was launched – an ambitious vision for the future airport that can serve 40 million passengers a year. The vision has been converted into concrete plans and projects – that is finally in the process of realizing.

The expansion project aims to increase the airport’s functional area, improve its operational efficiency, enhance passenger service standards, and double passenger handling capacity. One of the key aspects of the project is creating more space and natural lighting in the baggage claim area. 80 000sqm of additional space will be added between gates B and C. The move also promises to create more space for the passport control area, as well as for passengers arriving and departing in the Gate C area. The project includes also the construction of a station for high-speed trains to link the airport with Oslo and Hamburg.

The first phase of the construction is scheduled to be ready in four years, the second and last phase only after around ten years. It maintains that the expansion must take place within the existing terminal area rather than building a completely new terminal.
