La directora general de la Agencia Gallega de Desarrollo Rural, Inés Santé, mantuvo una reunión con el alcalde de la pequeña localidad de A Arnoia, Rodrigo Aparicio, en la que se evaluó la consolidación de dos polígonos agroforestales en el municipio. Dichos polígonos se han ido introduciendo paulatinamente en la región noroccidental española desde el año pasado como una forma de recurrir a métodos tradicionales y sostenibles en el manejo de las tierras cultivables.
Es más, este enfoque en realidad busca restaurar las tierras agrícolas abandonadas a un uso productivo. En el caso de A Arnoia (ubicado no lejos de la frontera portuguesa) esto significará la reintroducción de la viticultura y la restauración de las antiguas tradiciones vitivinícolas de esa región. También se prevé la disposición específica de cultivos y plantas con el fin de prevenir incendios forestales.
Dos de estos polígonos se crearían en el territorio municipal con el fin de aportar nuevas soluciones para la lucha contra los incendios forestales y para la recuperación y puesta en valor del suelo mediante el cultivo de viñedos, ya que se trata de una zona amparada por la Denominación de Origen de Vino de Ribeiro.
Uno de los polígonos estaría ubicado dentro de las sierras que son propiedad del Ayuntamiento y tendría una superficie de unas 60 hectáreas que serviría de herramienta para seguir aumentando la producción de vino de calidad en Galicia. Actualmente se está estudiando la orientación productiva del otro polígono, aunque también se tendrá en cuenta la plantación del viñedo dado el valor del patrimonio vitivinícola de la zona.
Estas iniciativas se enmarcan en la Ley de recuperación de tierras agrarias de Galicia, que apuesta por la valoración de tierras abandonadas e infrautilizadas y la generación de actividad económica, creando además barreras naturales contra incendios. De esta forma, la Xunta de Galicia busca incrementar el valor productivo de las tierras de A Arnoia y, con suerte, también revertir el despoblamiento rural.
