Paris sera à nouveau au centre des débats de haut niveau sur le climat et la biodiversité. Cette fois, la capitale française accueillera le « One Planet Summit », organisé par le gouvernement français, les Nations Unies et la Banque mondiale. L'événement se tiendra le 11 janvier et sera une occasion unique de déclarer des ambitions plus élevées pour la protection de la nature, à la lumière de la crise causée par le coronavirus. L'inscription des participants est encore possible.
Le premier One Planet Summit s'est tenu le 12 décembre 2017, deux ans après l'adoption de l'Accord de Paris sur les changements climatiques. Déjà à l'époque, les organisateurs ont constaté que les objectifs de l'accord sur le climat ne seront pas atteints sans des engagements plus forts, des décisions plus concrètes et une mobilisation plus large de toutes les parties prenantes des secteurs public et économique.
Aujourd'hui, les mêmes parties lancent une conversation renouvelée sur la protection de la nature et de la biodiversité, cette fois à la lumière de la pandémie mondiale de coronavirus. Le Sommet réunira des chefs d'État et de gouvernement, des dirigeants d'organisations internationales, d'institutions financières, du monde des affaires et des ONG, qui devraient cette fois s'engager pour des actions concrètes pour préserver et restaurer la biodiversité.
L'édition 2021 sera dédiée aux quatre thèmes suivants :
Depuis sa création il y a trois ans, le Sommet compte trois éditions, 121 pays engagés dans les coalitions, 5 partenariats public-privé mis en place pour mobiliser plus de 2 milliards de dollars pour financer la transition dans les pays en développement et 308 projets de recherche concrets conduits à travers le monde.
