Sergas, el Servicio Gallego de Sanidad, ha encargado a la Fundación autonómica de Medicina Genómica el desarrollo de un Plan para la implantación de la farmacogenómica en psiquiatría y la orden fue publicada en el Boletín Oficial de Galicia el pasado 21 de junio. El objetivo general de esta iniciativa es avanzar en la “medicina personalizada” en la región del noroeste de España, lo que significa adaptar el tratamiento médico a las características individuales de cada paciente.
La medicina personalizada implica la adaptación del tratamiento médico a las características individuales de cada paciente. Esto implica la posibilidad de identificar pacientes que difieren en su susceptibilidad a padecer una determinada enfermedad, en la biología y / o pronóstico de dicha enfermedad, así como en la respuesta a los efectos adversos que experimentan tras la administración de un determinado tratamiento.
El concepto parte del reconocimiento de la estructura genética única de cada individuo y la comprensión de que se pueden lograr mejores efectos en los tratamientos si el enfoque de talla única se elimina de la atención médica contemporánea.
Desde el punto de vista de la farmacogenética, ya existen biomarcadores que se pueden aplicar para predecir una respuesta inesperada a un fármaco en términos de efectos adversos. Conocer a priori el genotipo metabolizador del paciente y, en su caso, la cinética del fármaco permitirá ajustar la dosis con mayor rapidez, evitando efectos adversos, así como posibles hospitalizaciones.
El proyecto se estructurará en dos partes, una dirigida a la población adulta y otra a la población infantil y juvenil. Su implementación permitirá adecuar la prescripción a biomarcadores individuales, optimizando la eficacia de los fármacos y garantizando la seguridad de los pacientes.
Hasta ahora, las aplicaciones de las técnicas de medicina personalizada se han realizado mayoritariamente para pacientes oncológicos, pero su aplicación en el ámbito de la atención psiquiátrica constituye una clara apuesta por mejorar también los tratamientos de salud mental.
Las autoridades sanitarias han argumentado que este cambio no solo traería un beneficio directo para los pacientes y la salud del sistema en general, sino que también situaría a Galicia a la vanguardia de la innovación en este campo.
