Este año es el Año Europeo del Ferrocarril y un severo recordatorio al respecto llegó desde la esquina noroeste de España, donde se llevó a cabo un foro para el proyecto CoLogistics (bajo el programa Interreg) para discutir los desarrollos y desafíos que se presentaban en el camino el Corredor Atlántico, entre Galicia (España) y el Norte de Portugal.
Alberto Núñez Feijóo, presidente de la región de Galicia, habló en ese foro y pidió al gobierno nacional que considere prestar más atención a esta parte de la Península e invertir algunos de los fondos asignados por el Fondo Europeo de Recuperación en el desarrollo de allí conexiones ferroviarias de alta velocidad. Eso, en su opinión, permitiría una mayor cooperación transfronteriza en términos de cadenas logísticas más robustas y una mejora de la competitividad frente a la Región del Mediterráneo, donde se está desarrollando un corredor de transporte similar.
Núñez Feijóo se mostró especialmente inflexible en la necesidad de una conexión ferroviaria de alta velocidad entre las principales ciudades de las dos regiones: Vigo (Galicia) y Oporto (Portugal) que reduciría el tiempo de viaje a solo una hora.
“Si conseguimos la Salida Sur de Vigo habrá un Corredor Atlántico, de lo contrario no podremos sumar sinergias con el Norte de Portugal y tendremos enormes dificultades para competir en el futuro”, explicó el presidente su afán por asegurar el operatividad y funcionalidad intermodal del Puerto de Vigo.
En esencia, el Corredor Atlántico conecta las ciudades portuguesas, pasando por España hasta Francia. Sin embargo, se desvía ampliamente desde la esquina noroeste de la Península Ibérica, privándola como resultado de oportunidades económicas, inversiones y desarrollo.
En este sentido, también ha recordado la posición común adoptada por su Gobierno y los de Castilla y León y Asturias de introducir también un Corredor Noroeste, ya que estas regiones se ven igualmente afectadas por el trazado del Corredor Atlántico.
“Somos un lugar geoestratégico muy importante para la Unión Europea y necesitamos ser competitivos para que este lugar geoestratégico esté dotado de capacidad de producción y tractora, desde los puertos hacia el interior”, afirmó el presidente gallego.
