Global pledging event for Ukraine to take place in Warsaw

In recognition of Poland’s essential role for the safe relocation of war refugees

A global event pledges to collect billions of euros in humanitarian aid for Ukrainians on 9 April in Warsaw. The initiative, which also recognises the essential role of Poland in supporting refugees from Ukraine, concludes a wider campaign of advocacy organisation Global Citizen, the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau. The latter will join Stand Up For Ukraine only virtually, while the EU Executive will attend together with Polish President Andrzej Duda on site.

Stand Up for Ukraine! Now!

According to the webpage of the event, as many as 12 million people are in need of humanitarian help, due to the war in Ukraine. Over 6.5 million people have displaced internally, while 3.5 million have left the country, in search of safety in neighbouring states. Most of them – 2.5 million people - have gone to Poland.

This enormous number of refugees requires gigantesque amounts of resources, which neither citizens of these countries, nor governments are able to provide at the moment. For this reason, a crowd-funding event will take place next week, to spread the message of support and collect donations for Ukraine, as a response to President Zelenskyy's call to mobilize people around the world to call on world leaders to Stand Up for his country, which is aggressed by Russia.

On top of institutional backing, the campaign enjoys the support of high-profile artists, like Bono, Madonna, Elton John, Miley Cyrus, Adam Lambert, Céline Dion and Alanis Morissette.

The physical event will be preceded by reportedly the world’s largest social media rally, inviting users to share the call for humanitarian aid.

Even if you are not in Poland, right now, there are many ways you can help – by donating online, signing up a petition, or protesting locally. Check out more by going to the event’s webpage here.
