The first stage of the city’s Ungekulturhus is expected to be finished by August
The first stage of a new youth culture house in the area around Det Gule Pakhus on Madevej in the Danish city of Horsens is now close to becoming a reality.
At its most recent meeting, Horsens Municipality's Culture and Civil Society Committee was presented with a sketch project for the new youth culture house, which has been prepared with the involvement of a number of actors from, among others, Det Gule Pakhus, KulisseLageret, MÆRK Byen and Horsens Ungdomsskole. At the same time, a schedule has been made, which means that the first stage of construction will start as soon as possible and is expected to be ready for use at the start of studies in August.
When the new Campus Horsens is taken into use during this year, several thousand students will have their daily walk in and around the city centre, and this is the reason why new strong cultural offers must be established for all young people in Horsens.
“Now we have to get started, so that the first stage of the house is ready at the start of studies in August 2021, and that is the reason why the parties behind the budget agreement 2021 set aside five million DKK for the purpose. The ambition is to create a modern student house, youth culture house and a powerhouse for talents within rhythmic music, and this means, among other things, that Horsens will eventually have a new and larger venue,” stated the Mayor of Horsens Municipality, Peter Sørensen.
The first stage of construction includes an extension to the existing buildings. It will function as the main entrance to the youth culture house and will contain a café with study environments and space for ongoing everyday events and happenings. The extension must also act as a marker that something new is being developed in the area.
New rehearsal rooms will also be established, in addition to the current facilities, which support the house's ambition to be a rhythmic power centre in Horsens.
Finally, the surrounding outdoor areas are being renovated and a cosy courtyard environment with seating, a covered outdoor stage and smaller workshop rooms are being established around the main building.
