La Generalitat de Catalunya quiere que la región bajo su administración se convierta en un referente de innovación e investigación de alta tecnología a escala mundial. Como parte de esta ambición, se decidió poner en marcha una sección de la organización 'Barcelona Alumni' dedicada exclusivamente a las personas que trabajan a nivel internacional en el campo de la Inteligencia Artificial (IA) y que han completado sus estudios en Cataluña.
Se presentará oficialmente el 22 de diciembre en el 'Barcelona Alumni Global Summit' anual, que este año tendrá lugar en línea. La estrategia general se basa en el concepto de "diplomacia científica" y prevé una cooperación activa entre el gobierno regional, las universidades locales y sin fines de lucro de SciTech DiploHub y los centros de investigación.
Por el lado de la administración, el principal actor afectado es el Departamento de Políticas Digitales de Cataluña, que tiene un plan para trabajar con una estrategia denominada "Catalonia.AI", un enfoque global integrado destinado a hacer de la comunidad autónoma un nombre reconocible en ese ámbito.
El capítulo de los ex alumnos de IA se pensó como una forma de aprovechar lo que ahora es un grupo operativo de talentos que trabajan en algunos de los principales centros de investigación del mundo y llevarlos a la causa.
Por un lado, su influencia y prestigio pueden servir para promover y difundir la calidad de la educación científica catalana y atraer a la región a futuros estudiantes internacionales fomentando aún más la solidez de la formación allí.
Por otro lado, en el mundo contemporáneo es impensable que uno pueda hacer grandes avances en innovación sin permanecer aislado. Algunos de los alumnos de las universidades catalanas trabajan hoy en lugares, como el Centro de Tecnologías Cuánticas de Singapur, el Instituto Tecnológico de Massachusetts (MIT), la Universidad de Harvard y empresas líderes como Google, Apple, IBM, Facebook y Nvidia. Mantener un vínculo vibrante y un compromiso con estas personas solo puede servir para maximizar la calidad de la investigación realizada localmente.
