Ice skate for free in Athens

Lace up your boots and grab your favourite sweater

It's time to lace up your boots and grab your favourite sweater because the ice skating season in Athens is here. The floating ice rink at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center is already open, as part of the venue’s holiday program.

The rink has been set up at the start of the Canal, in front of the Visitors Center, offering travellers and Christmas and sports lovers the unique opportunity to enjoy a fantastic stunning view of the majestic Dancing Fountains and the illuminated Canal.

Ice skating is without a doubt one of the most favourite things to do during winter to children and adults. It’s fun, it’s a great exercise for the hips, it warms up, and usually end up laughing a lot.

The rink will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until 2nd February 2020, depending of course on weather conditions. Each skater will be allowed to stay on the ice for a maximum of 40 minutes. Children under the age of 5 will not be allowed on the ice, for safety reasons. Admission is free, but pre-registration is a must due to the popularity of the facility.

In 2018 the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center was nominated for the international prize for architecture, RIBA International Prize, awarded by the Royal Institute of British Architects.
