Looking ahead at what might be another arid year, so every drop counts
With the arrival of the spring season, the authorities of Ile-de-France (the region containing also the city of Paris) have issued an invitation to households in the possession of gardens to have rain collectors installed on their property. For this purpose, the government is offering up to 20,000 euros in subsidies for anyone who is planning to or has already installed the water tanks – no later than 3 months after installation, though.
The authorities are reminding the residents that in the current climatic context, the installation of a personal water reservoir can be beneficial both for their wallets and for the environment, given that H2O is set to become an increasingly precious resource.
The subsidy covers any type of water reservoir, whether it is above-ground or underground. The latter are more expensive due to the extra work involved with their installation.
With the worrying trends in weather, especially the arid waves that hat hit Southern Europe, it had become crucial to think about managing water responsibly, utilizing it efficiently and preventing its wastage.
With this in mind, the regional subsidy covers any expenses related to the purchase and installation of the rain collector. This includes a filtering collector, base, pump, cover, connection kit, earthworks and connection to the network, etc. The subsidy cap has been set at 50% of the cost of installation.
The following devices can thus be subsidized by regional aid provided they have been purchased as new:
The subsidy call forms part of the French region’s climate change adaptation plan – PRAAC, launched in September 2022 to respond to the challenges of global warming and its harmful effects. It is made up of 60 concrete actions that fall into 3 key areas: protect residents (especially the vulnerable), protect ecosystems and protect the economy.
