Coopération au-delà des générations : la municipalité de Montpellier met en œuvre une initiative de collocation entre seniors et étudiants. La ville française a mis en place une mesure novatrice ayant un double objectif : rendre la vie des étudiants plus supportable financièrement, tout en offrant des possibilités d’interaction sociale essentielle aux personnes âgées. Depuis plusieurs mois, une maison de retraite à Montpellier accueille un nouveau type de résidents, bien que beaucoup plus jeunes. La nouvelle initiative est une situation gagnant-gagnant : les étudiants reçoivent la possibilité de louer des chambres à des prix considérablement réduits en échange de plusieurs heures passées quotidiennement avec les retraités.
L’innovation implémentée pour le début de la dernière année scolaire est appréciée des deux côtés, mais elle est particulièrement utile pour les personnes âgées, dont seulement 30% sont visitées régulièrement par des proches. En revanche, les étudiants sont tenus de passer trois heures par jour, au cours desquelles les retraités sont principalement impliqués dans des activités proches de leur domaine d’études, telles que la musique, en revanche duquel ils paient un loyer deux fois inférieur au prix du marché. Une activité qu’ils acceptent avec joie et enthousiasme, car elle les aide à pratiquer et leur permet également de contribuer à une cause sociale importante.
