30 professional ice sculptors from 7 different countries will take part in creating a total of 45 ice sculptures
The 22nd International Ice Sculpture Festival in Jelgava is almost here – and the professionals that will be participating have just recently been selected.
The Festival will be carried out under the theme of “Superheroes” and potential participants were asked to submit sketches of their own interpretation of the word. The municipality combed through a total of 111 individual applications and another 50 team applications from 18 countries in order to select not only the best ideas but also the best artists, the ones with the most experience and boasting the greatest renown.
A total of 45 sculptures are set to be created as part of the traditional Jelgava Festival. Thirty of them will be smaller, made by individual artists, while the remaining 15 will be group efforts, created by the teams that were approved by local authorities. The approved ice sculptors come from 7 countries – Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Finland and have presented their own unique visions and interpretations of the “Superheroes” theme.
The International Ice Sculpture Festival is the perfect opportunity to slowly start getting in the mood for spring. It will be held between 7 and 9 February and the municipality is ready to make it an unforgettable experience.
Citizens, locals and tourists will be greeted with a fantastic cultural programme, full of concerts, workshops, events and many kinds of projects and initiatives. For the first time ever, there will also be an open-air concert held in concert hall Mitava.
The cultural programme prepared by local authorities is also the perfect opportunities for families to venture out and have a great time together, with tons of games and performances aimed specifically at children and young ones.
Tickets for the event are available at the municipality’s website – hurry, before the ice starts melting.
