With Christmas being only 9 weeks away, the Czech City of Karlovy Vary is now beginning preparations for the holiday season. From 27 November until 26 December, the city’s residents and tourists can visit Christmas markets, where 20 stalls will be set up in front of the Mill Colonnade.
Throughout the holiday season, the city will offer a rich programme featuring music, dance, and theatre performances. More specifically, children from primary schools and kindergartens will perform every afternoon, with local artists and bands performing after them. Mayor of Karlovy Vary Andrea Pfeffer Ferklová commented on the upcoming season:
"The Christmas atmosphere will be evoked in visitors by the festively decorated city, so the entire route from the Thermal Hotel to the Theatre Square will be interwoven with various light decorations. Visitors can then smell the scent of the forest in front of the Mill Colonnade, where dozens of live coniferous trees will be placed, which will evoke pleasant feelings in visitors.
I believe that everyone will enjoy Christmas Vary again, take a Christmas car train or a Christmas-decorated city bus. They can also enjoy the Advent mood in the area of St. Linhart, where there will again be sales of live trees and carp from the second half of December. We are currently also preparing a cultural program and activities for children, which should be published in mid-November."
This year’s Christmas tree will come from a private donor and the garden in Čechova Street. Moreover, it will be placed in front of the Thermal Hotel. The lighting of the Christmas tree will take place on the first Sunday of Advent (28 November) from 18:00.
