Lessons from the pandemic: virtual student summit in Baden-Württemberg

State officials and student representatives will gather on 20 May

In Baden-Württemberg, Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann and Science Minister Theresia Bauer will participate in a virtual summit where they will exchange ideas with students. On 20 May 2021, the event will focus on the lessons from the pandemic.

A special focus will be placed on the students in the first, second and third university semester, who have hardly had a chance to get to know real university life. Nevertheless, it will also be about the students in advanced semesters.

Students, representatives of universities and student unions will participate in the event

Studying in normal times requires initiative, effort, and discipline but those skills are even more important during online courses. The pandemic situation created not only difficulties in studying but also in all aspects of student life. In addition to students, representatives of the university and student unions will also be involved in the summit.

“Studying at home creates fewer friendships and networks, fewer plans and inspiration. Because study time is much more than pure study time, it shapes character and personality. We can offer a platform to talk honestly about what has fallen by the wayside, what worries, and hardships burden the students and where there are now prospects,” commented Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann.

“What our students need now are prospects of returning to face-to-face university operations after all the months of individual online studies. We now want to set the right course and evaluate the "lessons learned" from online teaching together with the students,” shared Science Minister Theresia Bauer.

The discussion with Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann, Minister of Science Theresia Bauer and representatives of the student body, universities and student unions will be broadcast live on 20 May 2021, on StudiGipfel-BW.de. Questions and comments can be submitted online by the audience. The event starts at 4 p.m.

Before the event, students are invited to actively participate in two workshops, the results of which will be presented in the discussion. The two workshops will be on the topics of how to study under coronavirus conditions and what help is offered for students during the pandemic situation.
