Amsterdam bans creation of new hotels
Another piece in the overall strategy to reduce tourist flows to the city
The festive mood grips the Spanish capital until 6 January
If you are planning a holiday in Madrid in the upcoming days, you are lucky. As of next week, tourists and city dwellers of Madrid will be able to completely immerse themselves in the holiday mood and rediscover the city. This is possible as the City Council of the Spanish capital will be turning on the Christmas decorative lighting on Friday, November 22.
It includes Motifs and luminous arches, chains, cherry trees and fir trees. The interesting novelty of this year will be the incorporation of motifs with traditionally Christmas designs that correspond to the meaning of these dates. Accordingly, bright nativity scenes can be seen in the Gates of Alcalá, Toledo and San Vicente, in the viaduct of Segovia Street and at the entrances to the Plaza Mayor. Also, new designs will shine bright at Canalejas Square, Carrera de San Jerónimo, Atocha Street, Mayor Street, Montera Street, Cibeles Square, Neptune Square and Cuatro Caminos Roundabout.
The project responds to the demand of the citizens and will contribute, together with the rest of the municipal Christmas program, to the tourist and commercial energy of the city, promoting economic activity and the beautification of the public spaces through a unique and innovative lighting. Furthermore, the decoration in 2019 will be more sustainable, thanks to the use of new more efficient technologies.
The lighting cost for this Christmas exceeds three million euros (without VAT), which represents an increase of 27.7% over the previous year. This is explained by the considerable increase in the number of locations that will be illuminated. The new Christmas lookout of Madrid can be seen until Monday, January 6, Three Kings Day.
