The City of Madrid has announced that it will open a new competition called ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Advanced Technologies Awards’ (Premios Inteligencia Artificial (IA) y tecnologías avanzadas), with the aim of fostering a more innovative climate in the Spanish capital.
The new awards will recognize achievements and successful projects in all the trendy technological fields of today, such as AI, Big Data, Metaverse, Blockchain or Digital Twins.
These awards have a fund of 480,000 euros divided into 12 categories of 40,000 euros each. This makes it possible to support and give visibility to a large number of startups and professionals whose work proposes viable solutions for the future.
The organizer of the awards is the City Council's Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which hopes to make the Spanish capital a benchmark in tech innovation and a role model to look up to.
All entrepreneurs, startups and small businesses, which have tax residency in Madrid will be eligible to apply and compete for the awards. Their projects will be evaluated based on criteria, such as technical quality, ease of practical implementation, potential in the market and their degree of development.
As mentioned above, there will be twelve categories and here are some of them: sustainability, citizen information, recycling, predictive smart applications, early threat identification, cybersecurity, satellite image processing, digital twin, public bidding, health and rehabilitation.
It’s visible that the scope of recognition seeks to include as many areas of modern urban development as possible.
The projects, however, have to provide technological innovations with a level of technology maturity or Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) between TRL 1 and TRL 7. The tech maturity is based on European Commission standards.
The city council is currently accepting applications for the awards until 30 September. Candidates can apply here. The dates of winner announcements and awards ceremony have not been mentioned yet.
