To raise public awareness and encourage people to think about climate protection
For the seventh year, the German state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is organising a state-wide climate protection competition. The competition opens at the end of May and is organised by the Ministry for Energy, Infrastructure and Digitisation.
The aim of the competition is to raise public awareness of the issues of climate protection and climate change. It should encourage people to think about these topics, to bring them to awareness and to engage them in conversation.
The Ministry of Energy, Infrastructure, and Digitisation welcomes contributions that take up the subject of climate in an artistic way, inspire exciting climate protection campaigns, objectively investigate climate change and visually capture its consequences, or develop innovative solutions.
Hinnerk Schönemann, the project's patron, expressed his enthusiasm about the competition: “It is impressive how much awareness and commitment to climate protection especially the children and young people show in this creative competition. As the patron of the competition, I would like to encourage people to deal with this topic and to participate. Show us what moves you.”
Printing, graphics, posters, collages, short films, and open category are the only categories in which children and young adults can participate. In the open category, competitors can create whatever they want. From recording a song to writing a creative text to take a moving picture to discuss climate protection/climate change in the form of a podcast, blog, or social media post. It is entirely up to the participant.
The best contributions are selected in a two-stage process. Following a pre-selection, a jury selects the winners in each category. Aside from the artistic aspects, the thematic connection to climate protection and climate change is prominent.
There is also prize money for the winners totalling 15,000 euros. Interested parties can participate until 31 August 2021. The award ceremony is planned for the end of October/ beginning of November 2021.
