Puede que el Partido Socialista de Cataluña haya obtenido la mayor cantidad de votos en la votación autonómica celebrada el 14 de febrero, pero parece que ahora los partidos de oposición e independentista se han unido y firmado un pacto que les da la ventaja y la mayoría para formar el nuevo gobierno regional. Eso significa que Pere Aragonés (ERC), actual y provisional presidente de Cataluña, mantendrá su cargo después de que el partido independentista rival JxCat decidiera apoyarlo tras meses de estancamiento.
El nuevo gobierno contará también con el apoyo de la extrema izquierda CUP (Candidatura de Unidad Popular), formando así un nuevo bloque que tiene la visión de intentar forjar una República Catalana, a pesar de los desacuerdos políticos sobre otras cuestiones ideológicas entre los partidos constituyentes.
La nueva coalición, al menos estuvo de acuerdo en no querer que Salvador Illa (PSC), exministro de Sanidad del Gobierno español, se convierta en el próximo presidente. Y tenían la fecha límite inminente del 26 de mayo para encontrar una solución al callejón sin salida político.
Una encuesta publicada por el diario La Vanguardia en enero mostró que el apoyo a la independencia se había reducido al 43% entre los ciudadanos catalanes. Sin embargo, los tres partidos tienen colectivamente 74 escaños en la asamblea regional, lo que está muy por encima de la marca mínima de 68 escaños requerida para disfrutar de la mayoría.
El pacto entre las dos partes prevé 14 ministerios, divididos a partes iguales entre ERC y JxCat. La ambición de la coalición es seguir buscando la independencia por medios democráticos favoreciendo las negociaciones con Madrid con el objetivo de convencer a las autoridades de allí para que permitan la realización de un referéndum sobre el tema. Un referéndum que sería legal e incuestionable, a diferencia del que tuvo lugar en 2017.
