It’s not for the faint-hearted
The lot is just the first part of a series of projects meant to make the city’s centre more convenient and accessible to citizens
Nicosia’s newest parking lot, part of a larger urban regeneration project officially opened on 1 January 2021. The parking lot is located below the boulevard on Homer Avenue- a first in the entirety of Cyprus, has 147 parking spaces, eight of which are for the disabled and will operate free of charge for the first month after its inauguration.
On the occasion of the opening of the parking lot, the Mayor of Nicosia, Konstantinos Giorkatzis, stated that this is another important day for the city and its citizens. "After the completion of the 1st phase of the renovation of the shopping triangle, which concerns Stasikratous Street and the surrounding streets, the delivery to the traffic of Kyriakou Matsi and Kallipoleos avenues, the parking lot of Homer is open to the public and will significantly facilitate access to center of the capital. From the parking lot, visitors will be able to easily go to the City Within the Walls, crossing the Trench, under the bridge of the Square ".
Nicosia, continued Mr. Giorkatzis is changing. "The heart of the capital is gaining momentum, the neighbourhoods are being upgraded. I wish everyone a happy new year and I call on the people of Nicosia to live in our city.”
In addition to the car park, the project includes public toilets at the level of the Davila moat (West) as well as a staircase and elevators that connect the car park to the moat and Homer Avenue. The project also included a widening of Homer Avenue, construction of new sidewalks and pavement, and installation of road equipment, lighting and signage.
The project has been co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (Business Competitiveness and Sustainable Development Program 2014 - 2020), the State Budget and the Municipality of Nicosia.
