Nicosia Municipality announced that it will renovate Kyriakou Matsi Avenue starting on 9 September. Construction efforts are expected to last for 15 months. The approximate cost of the project is 2.6 million euros. The road starts at the roundabout of the presidential palace and heads south into the city.
The project aims to better traffic conditions on the road, and to aid pedestrians and people with disabilities. The entire vision for the road will remain the same with the high cypress trees, while the project will significantly enhance the greenery by planting a large number of large trees. Works will include new pavement in both directions, and the creation of parking zones near the road. Crossings will be created and they will be accessible for people with disabilities. Additionally two new bus stops will be established with information points for the residents and visitors of the Cyrpiot capital. To support smart city systems as smart car parking management, environmental data collection, and WiFi will be installed an underground fiber optic network. New high-efficiency street lightining will be installed as well.
