Parma will be the Italian Capital of Culture for 2020 and 2021

All Italian cities taking part in the title race for the following years have reaffirmed their solidarity and support for mayor Pizzarotti

Parma, the Italian Capital of Culture 2020,  will keep the title for 2021. The decision was made in light of the coronavirus epidemic that hit all the territory of the country and made it impossible to carry out many projects in the beautiful Italian city.

The agreement was reached through the Relaunch Decree approved by the Italian Government, accepting the request made loudly in recent months by the city of Parma and the Emilia-Romagna Region. The request was also supported by many Italian cities in the running for the title, who agreed to postpone their application for the following years.

"When everything is or seems lost, you simply have to get down to work and start again from the beginning. This is what we will do after the splendid news arrived from the government.”, Federico Pizzarotti, mayor of Parma.

Solidarity and support from many Italian cities

All Italian cities included in the title race for the next few years confirm their solidarity and support for mayor Pizzarotti. This gesture shows that Italian culture is a vehicle for recovery but above all an engine of solidarity and community.

Spending a year as the Italian Capital of Culture represents a great opportunity for the whole surrounding area. The government's decision shows that the rebirth of the territories can start precisely from the culture department.

Parma confirms that it is ready to get back in the saddle by resuming the journey that it had already started, doubling its efforts to complete what can still be done in 2020 and above all preparing for a new year, 2021, as a great Italian Capital of Culture. Parma and its people have worked hard to create a year of culture that lives up to everyone's expectations and the city and its authorities continue to have a great desire to demonstrate its full potential.
