Prague approves smart city action plan with horizon 2030

It also takes into account the city’s climate ambitions

Earlier this week, on Monday, the city council of Prague approved an action plan for the smart development of the Czech capital. Smart Prague 2030 provides a comprehensive overview of the planned projects in the Smart City field, which will be implemented by different city organizations and the capital city of Prague itself over the course of the next decade.

Smart planning for a smarter Prague

The document provides a description of short-term and medium-term goals in different smart city areas, such as electromobility, energy efficiency or transport.  According to the Mayor of Prague Zdeněk Hřib, quoted on the municipal webpage, "The Smart Prague 2030 concept is based on the use of state-of-the-art technologies to transform the metropolis into a more pleasant place to live.

Projects that will really help to improve the quality of life of Prague citizens must be based on information obtained through the Data Platform of the Capital City of Prague Golemio. Thanks to the Action Plan, the city will have a stack of projects, and we will also be able to evaluate the success of their implementation".

Therefore, the Action Plan is expected to enable a more precise orientation of the implementation of Smart City projects, through evaluation indicators for individual areas. Individual project plans will be further divided into groups according to their focus and will contain a rough estimate of costs and a time for implementation estimate.

The entire process will be managed, coordinated and evaluated by OICT – the city company and IT operator that prepared the Action Plan. As their representatives indicated, Smart Prague 2030 will be a document in constant evolution.

Due to the fact that a large part of the Smart Prague area is connected within the field of development and innovation, it is currently not possible to determine the final list of projects that can be implemented in the Smart Prague area until 2030, they said. Therefore, once a year the plan will be revised and eventually – new projects will be added.

Finally, due to the fact that Smart Prague's objectives aim, among other things, at a clean, environmentally friendly and sustainable metropolis, the Smart Prague 2030 Action Plan was drafted in accordance with the climate commitments of Prague. They preview the cutting of CO2 emissions by at least 45% between 2010 and 2030 and the achievement of zero CO2 emissions by 2050 at the latest.
