It is currently financing a summer school for artificial intelligence
On 5 August, the City of Prague shared that it is financially supporting the establishment of a summer school for Artificial Intelligence. Organised by prg.ai association and Machine Learning College, the AI Summer School opened its doors to high school students and teachers on Monday 2 August for two weeks.
According to prg.ai director Lenka Kučerová, the country is currently facing a lack of around 30,000 IT experts a year. With the industry rapidly developing, Czechia is now looking for ways to keep up with the changing times.
Thus, the summer school aims to explore new teaching materials and provide students with knowledge in AI, machine learning, programming, etc. As such, pupils will be taught the basics of data analysis in the Python coding language, among others. It is hoped that the courses will motivate students to pursue education and careers in technical fields.
In addition to this, the City of Prague wants to use the findings of the two-week summer school to evaluate how AI can be taught more extensively and across secondary schools in both the capital and the country.
Councillor for education, sports, science, and business support Vít Šimral commented on the need for an AI summer school, noting: “Our common goal is to make Prague a city dictating trends and to build a centre of artificial intelligence in it. It is already clear how AI helps us in various life situations. In cooperation with the prg.ai association, we want to increase the interest of graduates in artificial intelligence at secondary schools and universities.”
For a city to be modern and smart, it must constantly move with the times and adapt to industries that are rapidly growing. By supporting the teaching of new materials in the field of artificial intelligence, the City of Prague proves that it is dedicated to moving forward and developing further.
