Prisoners from Bialystok renovate 40 kennels for local dog shelter

Today marks one year of cooperation between the shelter and the detention centre

One year after the establishment of the cooperation between Animal Shelter of Bialystok, Poland and the local Detention centre, its positive results for both sides are clearly visible. As part of the cooperation, inmates renovated almost 40 kennels for dogs living in the shelter. The cooperation included the transfer to the plant of damaged structures and the materials necessary for their renovation. The inmates worked for free to ensure that dogs would live in new and better-insulated kennels, which are solidly constructed and will last for several years, as the city website reports.

“Both sides see the benefits of this cooperation. The employees and volunteers of the shelter are pleased that the dogs have warm kennels, and the inmates could do something good and gain new skills,” commented Rafał Rudnicki, Deputy Mayor of Białystok in a press release.

What differentiates the kennels renovated by prisoners is the imprint of a human hand with a trace of a dog’s paw over them.
